That cable is Low voltage (up to 1000 volts) it's an ABC (aerial bundle cable) it's insulated but that insulation might be cracked leaving it live.

Contact the network operator and ask for it to be shut down, be quick because I bet it's on list for the veg management guys to do and they'll do it for free

As you can see in the photo it's a single black powerline running through the tips of the tree, which I've been asked to reduce. Advise on if it's okay or needing a shutdown? Thanks. The powerlines like twisted in some way if that helps.

You could do worse than to look here...

The official answer is "You should get someone from the electric company to advise you".

If you are not one for following rules, you will have to trust your instincts.

On a public forum, you will get all opinions, but who could ever really offer good advice from a poorly exposed photograph?

Stay safe and healthy :- )

If you look in your local phone book (if you can find one) it should be in there (possibly under what to do in an emergency - don't ring the emergency number though).

Or you could say which bit of the country the tree is in and we could have a little guessing game :- )

If you're not sure what it is, just leave it. It will be on the cutting cycle of the DNO, who carry out the work for free with utility qualified staff. Not what you want to hear but at least you live to cut another tree on another day.:001_smile:
