403 U66 Mog??

Hi guy's, there is chap just up the road from me with an ag spec 403 that i'm going to look at.

When i search for 403's it just brings up info and specs for 406's??

Anyone had any dealings with a 403 before, are they basically the same as a 406 but older? All the pics and video's just look like a u900.

ARHH done some more digging seem to be a beefed up 411. 4.5ltr 4cylinder 65-75hp. Longer 2300mm wheel base with a 406 style cab. Basically a slightly smaller 406. Will be interesting to have a look at

Will be a u600 I think, which is basically a smaller version of a u900.

Won't that be a bit gutless for most things?

They don't weigh or have the same payload as a 406 so i suppose it's down to gearing. At the end of the day it's a tractor not a truck, i would hope it will do 40ish mph on the road untill it's loaded up that is. I have a ford 7840 for grafting i'm just interested in A. owning a mog and B. something i can use on domestic jobs that will carry/tow more than the l200 that i can also power implements off.

I reckon it should turn a few heads as well. I think it would be smart if i could carry a small pto chipper on the front with a little four tonne trailer with silage sides on the back. There is a guy who does the old cannal barge sign writting/painting by hand, think it would look the nut's all vintaged up

I went and had a look. Under powered was the word of the day unfortunatly. Struggled to maintain 40mph up any slope no matter how small. It would be ok if it was in low box in the woods all it's days but i couldn't imagine loading it up with chip or putting anything behind it.

The thing was it was minted aswell not an old dog that's been kained all it's life. The 4 cylinder was put in the d507 merc van too and came in turbo form which would be similar to a 900 mb trac i would of thought.

I Had one of these about 8 years ago. 60hp and very very under powered. Great fun as a toy but not a working vehicle imo. I sold mine after a brown trouser moment travelling down a steep hill in a flash flood the brakes were wet ( drums all round ) and unknown to us the slave cylinders in most of them had started weeping. I stopped short of a new mondeo by about a foot the only reason it stopped I think was me blowing on the windscreen and flapping my arms. Mine was in good order with a good engine but with 2 tonne on the back even a slight hill would knock you into 1st and 5 mph. The u900 would be a much better bet with more room in the cab and I think they come with disc brakes.

Aye i was really dissapointed with the way it shaped! There is a cheap u1000 on the bay but it looks like it needs a fair bit of work. Gonna hold off from jumping into the skintness that is mog ownership

I dont think the u1000 is as well thought of as the old round shape u900 the u1000 is a heavy truck with a 4 cyl sprinter engine. If you are going to tow things get a u1700 or bigger.

Nooo the u1000 has the same 6cylinder as the u900 it's the u90 thats has the 5cylinder sprinter engine. From what i can gather a u1000 is a u900 with a square cab.
