Re: Stihl 044

Yeah theyre a good saw, 70cc, robust and good power.

Wish i didn't sell mine

They are an older saw now. They did bring a 440 out after though, though they don't do this now either. Parts should be a plenty.

If its at the right money it'll do you good service. ohhh and 18-20" bar

Re: Stihl 044

I use mine with an 18 inch bar, but i also have a 28 inch bar, runs both with plenty of grunt. Cant complain with mine plenty of revs and power.

Re: Stihl 044

Solid and reliable. I have used mine quite hard for milling (Ripsaw band mill) with no problems, and did once stick a 36" bar on it to split a couple of butts down on the Alaskan - I wouldn't say this was a happy experience though, for me or it.

Try to get the later one if you can, with the 12mm wrist pin (gudgeon pin) as opposed to the earlier 10mm version. It makes it easier to get a replacement pot and piston should you need one at some point.

Re: Stihl 044

They still do the MS440 here in france, its about 1000 euros and comes with a 22" bar as std.- they put odd bar sizes on here just to confuse!- One of the best saws ever imo.
