stihl 660 losing power

hello all, was using my stihl ms 660 today and found it wasnt running well at all. It seemed to run ok with the throttle pressed halfway down but if I pressed it right down the saw would slow right down. It also started stalling at random so I got fed up with it and now i'm scratching my head as to whats causing the problem (has always been fine in the past). Was wondering if anyone has any ideas what the likely cause could be? Thanks, Rob Stringer

I've recently cleaned the air filter, though the mesh on the filter base still doesnt look that clear (after washing in warm soapy water). Just seems odd that the problem has just appeared.

Re: stihl 660 losing power

Simplest things first.

Sounds like fuel shortage, enough to run at 1/2 throttle, but not enough for any more throttle, so then runnng weak.

Check pickup filter, AND the internal carb gauze.

Take it from there.

Re: stihl 660 losing power

I third that Fuel filter possibly, internal carb gauze filter very likely and also a blocked breather likely - you cna try the "leave the fuel cap loose" trick and see if it works better trick.

Let us know if none of these work and we will suggest a few other things to check.
