Help me with my Stihl ms 230 please!

Hi everyone was wondering if i could have some help please, i got given a stihl ms230 by someone from work experience, it idles perfectly, it works at high revs but after you stop revving it it turns off. Was wondering if i could have a bit of advice. I have adjusted the carb to the manuals instructions, given it a good clean, and changed the plug. However I have got it to work properly once but since then it hasn't performed well. Many thanks -Harry

Not sure if this might help, but someone on the forum suggested squirting some WD40 into the carb and then staring it...

one of my chainsaws was bogging down after start up so I thought, what the hell, I know it ain't gonna work but whats a little WD40 as opposed a new carb..

 

Squirted some WD40 into the carb, attempted to start up, brown smoke coming out the exhaust and then it fired up... runs like new again...

 

It might not be whats wrong with yours, but why not give it a try...

Spud is your man . He will be along with some suggestions I am sure . Failing that you can send it to him and he will sort it .

so after you've revved it up and taken your finger off the trigger the revs decrease and then it cuts out (dosnt return to idle) but it will start straight up again and idle perfect?

Yes Eric, but it will idle for a few seconds after i have stopped revving then cut out.

sounds like the L needle needs a tweak and then the idle screw adjusting to compensate for the L adjustment.

Just out of interest how much should i tweak the L screw?

Hook out the fuel pipe and see if there any cracks on the bends. Cheap replacement.
