Taking chainsaws on aircraft.

I've been asked to do some tree work in Spain and wondered if anyone has taken saws on planes? Or is it just easier to hire them out there. Any advice would be really helpful.

I had a disaster trying to bring a 562xp brand new in its box back from Germany two months ago it was a complete no when I asked why and said I had brought one from the states in my hold luggage granted it was years ago they just said absolutely not i had to DHL it mate it took three days and 30 euro

Thanks Don. I remember reading your post now. If I can't get a pre arranged agreement with the airline I'll get the guy Im working for to hire them. (He did it before for a mate who went over) thanks

I've flown over to nice in France with BA before with 2 saws and climbing kit and been fine. Just asked them before hand and they said we had to drain the tanks and make sure they were clean

I hope not! [emoji41] flights will be paid for and it's all pruning work/deadwooding. I was just going to take the 150 and a load of silkys over. The big boss over there has said he'll hire what I need.

I've travelled extensively with knives, machetes, axes, bill hooks and spear guns on planes.

As long as you go to the fragile/oversize items or have them in "hold" luggage, I've never had any issues.

Most airlines,ferrys etc will state they will not allow chainsaws on board.

However if it's drained, bar and chain removed, " it's a small engine".

If you have a chainsaw winch then it's for that...

I have travelled to France with easyjet with 2 petrol Chainsaws, my advice is to speak to your airline...get them to confirm in writing exactly how you need the saws presented...i.e bar off, completely drained off fuel etc...print that correspondance out and take with you to the airport just in case there's a problem once you get to airport.....easy peasy! Good luck
