just wondering the best way to clean the new felt/fabric air filters in the 201tc and in some other saws too. prefer the old style plastic mesh ones for cleaning.

thanks carl

Spray with carb cleaner/WD40/GT85/Turps etc and blast off with a compressor. Shifts most grot off the filters!

An air compressor on an air filter? Really? When i did chainsaw maintenance that was the one thing we were taught NOT to do!!

Warm soapy water will suffice

On the plastic mesh style filters air compressor is the way to go although I just wash them.in the sink with washing up liquid and an old tooth brush.

With the paper element filters I would have thought they are designed to be cleaned but replaced.

Soapy water and air dry, its not good to blast this type of filter with compressed air or it ends looking like drowned cat and loses its filtering capacity.

Never seen any drowned cat looking air filters in my workshop, just much cleaner ones after a good clean. Just done one off a ported 372 which was running rich even on 1/4 turn. All the mesh opening was filled with a residue of some sort - compressor and carb cleaner left it perfect.

On the paper filter ones I usually use carb cleaner on the front and blast from the inside out - never had one look like the fella that cleans his with a brush and water! The only issue I have had is on vintage wire grid and flock ones past their best!

I guess I just do what works!!!
