replacing crank seals on a husky

any tips for this or is it a case of tapping them in with a socket,dont want to make an arse of it lol

 

What saw? Typically a long reach socket or plug socket that should locate on the outer top edge of the seal and just tap it in.

 

Some are mothers down to lips on crankshafts or crankcase design around the seal - 346XPs are about the worst.

Reckon its a 372 xtorque as asking about a replacement piston on another thread, but may be wrong

 

The flywheel side is easy, the clutch side is an unusual one as the seal needs to be fitted over a bush with a flanged end that tends to rupture the seal on fitting unless you have the conical former that eases the seal over the lip!

seen a video with the guys using what looked liked a bit of tin round the crank the slid the seal down it until it went in place

Ok the flywheel side is pretty easy, drift the seal in, it should be slightly below the serface of the crankcase, if too high it will rub on the back of the flywheel, once in replace the flywheel to check there is no contact with the seal, the drive side is a little more taxing, there is a tiny black o ring that goes onto the crank first, the seal is then driffed into the crankcase level with the edge of the crankcase, then carefully push the steel bush onto the crank and through the seal, the bush is what the oil pump gear sits on, the black o ring seals the bush on the crank, it is very easy to forget the o ring as it is very small.
