The chainsaw revolution

As an established author (see Mick Briant), l'm currently researching a book about the three aspects of timber production: tree felling, timber haulage & sawmilling. I'm writing a book primarily about the history of the chainsaw, but also the early pre-chainsaw days and how timber was processed with an axe and crosscut. Having worked tree felling for a number of years then set up the largest Stihl agency in the UK (now retired), l have a good knowledge of the industry.

I'm currently planning a trip round the UK, visiting collectors, chainsaw agencies, sawmills, estates, etc. Do you have any information or could you direct me to collectors of old saws, or those with old unpublished photographs of chainsaws or tree felling/sawmilling. I can be contacted at [email protected]. Mick

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.  If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom,  then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
