New old saw...

Greetings, first post here! Been using a husky 136 for light felling and firewood duties for a good few years now and besides the odd oil leak i've been very happy with it. As an aside from my day job (saddle maker) i have various permissions to use a number of woodlands for camping/bushcraft/gathering firewood and after helping a family friend/client over in shropshire the last few winters clearing some substantial windfalls on their property, i've been fancying something a little more substantial. I'm no stranger to fixing up 2 strokes so always one for a bargain i've been scouring the bay of evil and social media and like the idea of either husky 346xp or stihl ms240/260, any views and advice would be greatly appreciated

240 is a great little saw and has plenty of grunt for its size espescially on a 14 " bar.If your ploughing through bigger wood id opt for the 260 with a 16" bar i think an 18" bar on that saw would bog it down.

Ive no experience with the husky 346xp so cant comment on that particular saw.On a side note ive bought a couple of saws off ebay and did well with them although it may have just been blind luck.

Good luck mate

if your going to buy a saw off ebay price a new pot and piston as well because 50% of saws sold on the bay are scrap. Some basic ebay translations to remember "ran fine but won't start now" is ebay for scrap, "selling for a friend" means scrap, "not running right, may be easy fix" means scrap, "running rough may just need a service" means scrap. Unless they clearly state that the saw is in good working order and offer a returns policy, avoid unless your getting it for peanuts and can cover the cost of replacement parts. If your looking for a hobby grade saw i'd buy a new husky 135, 40cc, 14" bar, and you might get a few years warranty if its for home owner use. But if your thinking "i could get a used pro grade saw for the same money on ebay" remember most pro grade saws are bought by professionals, and professionals don't often sell the tools of their trade until they have razzed the life out of them!

I'd have to agree with Stubby on that one. 346xp.

Outlasted all the other saws we have had over the years. Would love to see what a ported one is like.

15" Sugu pro light bar , full chiz chain driven by an 8 pin powermate . :001_smile:
