Stihl 084

Hi I have a 084 with 36" solid nose bar think it's duromatic it has a 404 chain and the sprocket is 404 /7 can I change the sprocket to a 3/8 one as I have a few milling chains in 3/8 already and these seem to be same size. It would be cheaper than buying more milling chains in 404, if I can what would I need cheers Chris

I'm not speaking from experience here, so am happy to stand corrected, but your bar has no pitch, so you only need to match the gauge. If your existing 3/8 chains do, then I assume you are good to go.

 

I see 1124 640 2004 (8T) as a suitable spur sprocket for your saw.

Hi Dan yes gauge is 1.6mm on both chains what is the difference between 7t and 8t spur sprocket cheers Chris

Well, it's just what came up on google, but if it were a case of 7 vs 8 I'd say it's going to give you a bit more pull, sounds like dropping down a gear to me

Stick a rim sprocket kit on the saw , just swap rims 3/8 - 404 . 11240071000 part number for 404 kit , just order a 3/8 rim as well
