Got called to this field maple yesterday at a local school that decided it didn't get on with it's other half and took a lean over 2 neighbouring property's , we felled the tree today and was amazed how much it had leaned from it's original position , sound wood until the last few feet then there is a fairly deep hole in the ground. The school are now worried that the second stem is gona go the same way and want to remove it Which I sort I feel the same , but though id give it a chance to live if it's worth it , best pictures I could get so if you have any thoughts on the fungi on base that would be very helpful

Many thanks

i hope you haven't ringed up the tree, it's a fabulous wood.

Unfortunatly because the school field was still pretty soft i pronised the school I would make ruts across the football pitch so ive managed to get 1 large lump about 5ft that 3 of us man handle on to back of my landy but the rest of the stem is ringed and the limbs are in about 3ft to 4ft peices , if the next tree has to go then hooefully the ground will be firmer il get it out in larger bits
