had a play with one on a couple of occasions and they are a handy bit of kit, didn't strike me as overly robust and very small (I think I would be worried about loosing it) you still have to be a known distance from the tree for it to work accurately. it has the benefit of taking the calculation out of using a manual one like my suunto manual one.

There was someone doing one with an inbuilt range finder at Elmia but I cant for the life of me think who it was, as that would really take the leg work out the job

Hi Bob, we use a trupulse 200 available from York survey supplies, it's more than twice the price but measures distance, height, incline and the distance between 2 points and works the calcs out for you, I'll send it home with the yoof if you want to have a play with one, never used the honey brothers one

Anyone's used them

Any feedback or suggestions for other options

It's not possible to calculate height withgout knowing distance. Trupulse etc. measures distance and angle. Laser disto measures distance. Choose your weapon for inclination. They all do the same.

I suggest you spend 5 minutes realising how really, really simple and reliably accurate it is to do it with a manual clinometer and a pair of feet.
