Best rope to start practicing splicing?

Hi all,

 

I would like to give splicing a go, I've got some Selma fid needles and whipping twine all ready to go! I've had a go one some

Marlow boa but found it difficult to milk the last section into the mark. Seems to bunch up at the cross over!? I'm assuming a 9mm prussic cord isn't going to be the easiest to start on?

 

So,

 

What rope? Something supple and loosely braided I guess?? Stuff I can buy by the meter easily.

Rigging rope is nice and easy to start with. If you can get hold of a wire fid it will be a bit easier on the smaller diameter stuff.
