Dismantling pallets

I'm after using pallet wood for building a little log store but its difficult to dismantle them without damaging the boards. I saw a vid on youtube where a chap was using a lump hammer but I can only see that way working on certain pallet constructions, where you can get the hammer to it. Does anyone have a technique that they could share? I would prefer to get the whole board without having to cut it.

There's a polycarbonate manufacturer near us and they get sheets supplied on 8m pallets for single use. They sell them to the locals (they have a custom built trailer for this purpose) as they have 4 full length 5"x6" beams in them as well as lots of planks.

I always use a spade and a small block for leverage. The spade allows you to push against the whole board thus avoiding splitting. It tends to pull the nails right through the board rather than pull them out though.
