Celtic Sword in the Stone

I carved this sword in a stone today, no customer or anything, just practice. I find that precision made symmetrical shapes such as swords are far more difficult to achieve with a chainsaw than i thought, as you can see :sneaky2:

In fact even harder than symmetry was in school.

Hi Dave

I copied the pattern from a sword that was on display at Erddig in Wrexham a while ago, it is actually 4 legs of a dragon extending out from the centre, I wasn't able to get that level of detail with my dime tip and the size of wood I was using. :001_smile:

no offence im sure. especially as the swastica is a bastardisation of an ancient sun symbol. Hindu i think and maybe some others. Anyway, i knew what it LOOKED like but i thought i would ask :) I do like the design though. nice idea. would make a fun bench-end too. get on with it then! what you waiting for?

Thanks Dave, i practised the sword handle as i want to do a full size sword and handle as part of a bigger piece later in the year. I do like the idea of a bench end, watch this space
