There is one coming up on the 20th.

Containing an item or 2 I could consider bidding on.

But!

I understand from the "terms and conditions"

being

C. 2. Submitted bids are binding offers for the conclusion of a contract to which the bidder is bound for a period of 14 days following the tender deadline. The highest bidder has no claim for acceptance of his bid.

Means that if my silly low bid:001_tt2: is the only or highest bid.

Withams are not oblidged to let the item go?

Yes?

So how much BELOW the "guide price" can one risk going.

25%, perhaps?

Cheers

M

The guide price is what they have told the owner that the item is expected to make.

I think 25% may be a bit ambitious.

A lot of auctions with big clients sell subject to approval and run the bid price by the vendor for approval.

I suspect that there may well be a reserve, in which case if your high bid is below it you won't get the item.

My interpretation (fwiw) of that particular condition is that they are under no obligation to sell to the highest bidder, so if they consider that the high bid is not high enough they don't need to sell, or if for som reason they choose to accept a bid from an underbidder a higher bidder has no redress.

But I may be wrong of course!

There is some interesting gear coming up at the moment, that's for sure.

Ignore the guide price, bid what you are willing to pay.

I put a bid in on a LR there some yrs ago, the salesman spent 20 mins detailing what it needed doing and told me the guide price, I bid 25% under that guide and got it, he had neglected to tell me the engine was fubar, I ended up 2 grand out of pocket with no recourse.

"it's been through our workshops and is mechanically sound...but needed too much bodywork" yeah right!

And count your fingers after you hand over the cash:thumbdown:

Thanks Pumpy.

"caevat empor" an all that!

(i) I would be viewing and trying item if at all poss.

(ii) Putting in a "silly low" bid, to attempt to keep myself right.

After all a bargain is only a bargain if it is;

"something one dont need, at a price one can afford"

cheers
