Double Fishermans

Evening all,

Not sure if this is the right place but just a quick question regarding tying the double fishermans knot.

Ive just booked my climbing courses for January and so have ordered some new gear including Prusik cord.

Ive always tie these with relatively short "tales", ie excess rope after the knot. Ive usually left these about an Inch long and never really bothered with shrink wrapping etc as they've never got in the way before.

Now Ive read somewhere that these must be left with 3 inch tails ( I think it was the tree climbers companion but cant be sure). This seems a bit long so my question is what length does it need to be and also how do you tidy them up ie shrink wrap?

Many thanks,

Rob
