Hello all, I am looking to buy a fresh chip truck and am quit interested in the crew cab merc sprinters, does anyone use these? How good are they when loaded? How are they towing a tracked chipper or something of similar weight?

Any info would be great fully appreciated.

I was shown one at a arb show last year that had a hook loader kit from palfinger mounted. The representative from palfinger spoke very highly of them. They also had a Renault Maxity on the stand with a hookloader. The sprinter is a much more stable platform and the comfort in the cabin is better.

Both could load about a ton with the hookloader kit and alloy bed with mesh sides. Loading ramps and toolbox was included in the loadbed.

We had a new Sprinter 316cdi panel van in 2012, the only way you can get them to tow 3.5 tons is to factory fit the towbar otherwise its 2.8 ton. At the same time we had a tacho and start assist fitted. Pulls like a train at 7 tonne GTW. They are brilliant vans , reliable , great to drive and surprisingly cheap on parts
