That's pretty close to the bearing and looks like it's working it's way round. It will let go in a big way soon or if it is pulling air through the crack it will probably seize first. You should replace the whole crankcase as a matched pair but separate halves do come up sometimes. It's not a little job though. Link to harry's listing, it looks like something you might be able to use. :D

Probably easier to buy a second hand replacement and keep yours for spares, depends how much you want to spend on it.

Agreed, that's the route I'd go down. It doesn't look like it's fixable quickly and if you need a saw now, well a replacement seems the best option. As Peatff said use the broken one for spares or alternatively list it on ebay either as is or break it down and sell of the parts as spares.

quite fancied a 550 so that might be the way to go...does anyone know if you can convert a 550 from i guess 325 to run on 3/8 as i have converted all my saws to run on same chain.73lpx.saves time sharpening and means i only buy one roll of chain at a time:thumbup:

There is a lot of Americans running them on 3/8 do a search on arbosite, Definitely not put any thing bigger than a 15" on it though.

I'm tempted to give it a try but have a stack of 13" Oregon bars I like on 325 I got for free.
