Truck air breather hoses

The other day I noticed my rear axle was leaking a small amount of oil, first port of call unscrew the breather hose & sure enough the hollow bolt was blocked with crap.

Upon screwing the hose back onto the axle I noticed it had worn a pin hole in one of the rear brake lines not good but it's a small section to replace & easy to get to.

The point I'm making is check where your air breather hoses are located move them if they are anywhere near brake lines.

You can see from the pic where it has worn.

Well you could look at it like that, ..........or you could ask yourself why you didn't pick up on a leaking brake line before something relatively trivial like a blocked breather, or indeed why the problem with the brake line rubbing didn't come to light before it became a serious problem.

This is what periodical inspections are for

Hey treequip easy, the brake line wasn't leaking until I removed the breather pipe, yeah it should have been picked up on inspection,

I didn't post this to be criticised fella just a heads up.

This is a classic problem with landrovers (I don't know what vehicle you have) and the oil level should be checked. The reason being when a hot diff casing with a blocked breather goes wading the sudden cooling causes a vacuum which will suck water into the diff through the hub seals. Water then sits at the bottom of the casing with gear oil floating on top until it emulsifies.
