Hi all recently went to a pub restaurant ask for the bill and there was a £25 compulsory surcharge we didn't know anything about it but paid it what do you think thanks all John

How many were at your table Jon as I think they some times add a service charge for party's over a certain number.

£25 is a bit steep though

Jon is the service charge over and above the tip or gratuity for your server?. Here stateside usually with a party of guest dining say of 5 or more a 25% gratuity is normal and customary.

This amount is automatacally added to the check. If I was presented a 25% service charge over and above the bill before and especially after the tip I would be having words with the manager or owner of the restaurant PDQ!.

I'm I reading this correctly Ted?

If say a table of six went for a meal and a few drinks and the bill came to £300 you would be paying a gratuity of £75 on top?
