Hi guys, i realised that these have all been mentioned previously, i'd just like to collate it all into one thread to get my head around it.

first off, im looking for a compression tester. i've heard good reports from the gunson hi gauge tester, what are your views on this?

second, i'm after a decent vacuum AND pressure tester that i can use for both my crankcase and carb, can anyone shed some light on this subject as it seems to be a bit of a cloudy area.

thanks in advance chaps :thumbup1:

The Gunson compression gauge is fine and gives good results, I do pull the engine over in single pulses to build compression up to 100 before pulling it over hard as I have had the Schrader valves blow when measuring some higher compression saws but is more my type of work than the gauge.

I have a bastardised Gunson Low gauge for vacuum and a Sealy brake bleader pump and gauge for vacuum - total cost for these two was around £45!

This is what i use, the pump is vacuum and pressure, its sold as a brake bleeding kit hence the two tubs for collecting brake fluid but never used it for this. The compression tester is over kill for what i need but it was dirt cheap on offer for what it is. Think the pump was around £75 and the compression tester was £95 on offer marked down to half that because one of the hinges on the case was broken. Never used a gunson but everyone else i know in the business swears by them.
