tipper bed build

I have started a build on my transit. Steel frame bed and corners to chip box with ali planking as sides.

My previous tipper was built on the top of the tipping mechanism, resulting in a high bed, so the plan with this one is to incorperate the tippling frame into the bed floor. (think this makes sense!)

I have been quoted for the alli planking from service metals, bugger, 2.6 metre sides and tailgate only is going to come in at about £700. Still really fed up with ply sides!

My question is;

Can anyone advise on the spacings apart of the floor supports?

Need to find a happy medium between weight and strength.

Using phenolic plt on floor.

cheers

Depending on how much weight you will be hauling and lifting to dump I would say 18" off center. Have you considered aluminum for your frame work in conjunction with the phenolic pit floor?. How thick will your floor be?

easy-lift guy

What's a phenolic pit floor then?

18 inch spacing's is about right, I would go with a steel floor, the phenolic ply just wont last and its way too grippy for tipping stuff.

I googled the bed material and it came up as some sort if plastic?, looked like it any way

Its not phenolic pit, its a phenolic faced ply (plywood with a high grip plastic facing)

It pays to know what you are talking about.

Ally frames for tippers aren't a good idea, constant flexing gives them a short lifespan particularly on smaller vehicles, its also expensive for not much weight saving.
