Chestnut shingles or shakes

Hi all, I'm building a small log cabin in my Sussex wood (fed up of sheltering under a tarpaulin in the drizzle.) Currently looking at roofing options. I'd love chestnut shingles or shakes. Anyone got any idea what they cost? And who would be a good supplier? Am contacting local sawmills. Before you ask, I have hardly any chestnut in the wood - it's mainly birch and Scots Pine. If really expensive this may turn out to be a pipe dream, but I would definitely prefer wooden shingles or shakes to roofing felt .... Looking forward to hearing from you

The school at West Dean ( West Sussex ) has recently had a pavilion built and that has shingles so a local supplier I would think .....

Been working on a bungalow here for a couple of weeks, it was built in 1950, roof and walls clad with cedar shingles, I'm amazed how well it's held up, considering the gales and rain we get.

But cedar is not an option for you, so not much help I'm afraid.
