for me it'd hafta be the Terrano or a Trooper. The Trooper is roomier but as said that 3.0 Caterpillar engine can be extremely troublesome even with all the recall work done, but a 2.8 or 3.1 lump can be fitted to replace it.

 

I reckon the Terrano wood be better suited for fir pootling thru the woodland as it's a bit narrower, plus i tink they are generally well put together.

A mates son is a sheep farmer and very, very, ill on a vehicle.

 

He's been through nearly all of them over the years and reckons the Terrano is the most robust of the lot. To put it in perspective he bought a new Hi-Lux about 4yrs ago and took a massive financial hit to be rid of it after a year as he couldn't be bothered with it and went back to using the old Terrano again, which he had kept as it was worth so little.

Daihatsu fourtrak? Or too long in the tooth now?!

 

I had an independent years ago. They are rated for towing 3500 kg and with their low gearing punch above their weight. They suffer a bit from the rot especially now. Not sure how spares supply will be in a few years.
