Subaru Forester 2.0XT

Our present car is a petrol Honda CRV which is ultra reliable, spacious and comfy, but quite frankly......boring.

 

So we fancy a change for something of a similar size, with a bit of poke and want to stay with petrol.

 

Quite fancy the Subaru Forester 2.0XT.

 

Anyone got any opinions, either for, or against?

We've got a 51 plate forrester. 2.0 turbo (170bhp). Love it. I've had a few different Jap turbo's and this has been the best all rounder. The forrester is lively but can't be described as blisteringly quick. It's a great all round family estate with a bit of a growl. The tuning possibilities are endless but I decided to keep this one stock as I want it to last. Little bit on the thirsty side compared to a diesel but none of the reliability issues. Really good build quality and a joy to drive. Very practical but fun at the same time.

A customer/friend towed my 3 ton digger back home for me with a new Subaru Forester, was well impressed!

The XT model is 240hp so should have a bit of grunt.

I test drove a Forester XT a couple of years ago. It was fun! Quick, but quite twitchy and it had a bit of body roll in corners. I bought a Legacy Spec B in the end instead.

Cant give 1st hand on the forester as the 2 scoobi's iv had were different. I do know several folks with the forester though ..1 with a XT.

Mere mortals quick and sure footed...thirsty on petrol as you would expect, tyres choice is important if you want good all round performance. They.. MUST ..be properly serviced..(oil change critical) . On the better side of average for reliability.Drive train is pretty tough (there are a few sorts ) On top of this info My local garage (friends for 35 yrs and used by myself) look after 5 at least with out major drama so you wont need to do the main dealer thing. Service record is King !

My eldest daughter has a forestor. She has done serious milage in it now and it is still going strong. Trips to remote settlements over dirt roads are not unusual and to date it hasn't let her down in the six years she's owned it.
