Best 6.5 ton tipper?

I'm looking at buying a 6.5t tipper so I can tow a larger chipper and still be under the new 8250kg limit. A 7.5 t truck would only permit me to tow a 750kg chipper which isn't big enough.

Does anyone have any experience of these?

I am looking at a couple of Iveco ones with the 3.0l engines but wondered if the Japanese alternatives would be better/last longer?

I would welcome any feedback. Thanks

You can buy a 7.5t and get it down plated to 6.5t.

Nothing physical to change just some paperwork, a sticker under the bonnet and a new plating certificate.

At least it was 20 years ago!

Thanks Al,

I'll look into that , though I hate to think what they would do to me if they caught me overweight on a down rated truck. Better to be overweight on a smaller truck I would have thought.

That's correct Al, the only stipulation is it must still have a payload of at least a ton and it's 25 quid to do.

Our 6.5 ton iveco has been a great truck not comparable to the 3.5 tonners.

I am looking at putting the young lads though the C1+E training as it is way more suited to tree work then the 3.5 tonners.

We made an offer on a 6 ton 4x4 canter that looked like a nice truck, but alas someone else brought it..

Iv had several iveco,s over the years and there good trucks I'd rarther use the 6.5 tonne Daily over a down rated 7.5 tonne truck

The 3.0 engines are really powerful and pull like trains and surprisingly good on diesel

You won't even notice your towing a large chipper even with a full load of chip
