single or double wheel axle

I'm looking at getting another tipper and was thinking whats the difference between the single and double wheel rear ends .

My thinking is we do quite a lot of miles not carrying huge loads and towing usually the wheeled chipper but some times tracked , would a single wheeled be cheaper on fuel ? Is towing affected and better with double wheel ?

I am keeping another twin wheel Iveco but she's done quite a few miles now so can enjoy a local retirement .

I'm really interested in your opinions on this as haven't the foggiest .

me and a friend were arguing over this the other night, he insisted a tipper aught have double wheels, I said it shouldn't matter if the makers have put single wheels on em, they know what they're doing..

The only thing I could think of, is if your overweight, double wheels would be better..
