A cut above the rest: The world’s finest loggers compete in the ultimate chainsaw championship

The forthcoming 31st World Logging Championships takes place over four days in the picturesque Swiss lakeside village of Brienz - the original home of wood carving.

Beginning 10th September the thrilling global competition will see the best loggers from around the world battle it out over five unique and challenging chainsaw disciplines in order to decide who will become world champion.

With the Championships coming up this week, the Husqvarna team has been busy honing its skills at two intensive training camps, in order to repeat the 2012 victory of its very own Aleksandr Sokolov (Russia).

Sokolov will be contending to retain his crown after beating two time silver medallist Jukka Peramäki (Finland) in a tie-breaker two years ago.

Other contenders from the Husqvarna team fighting for the title include Hans Raffl (Italy), Urs and Philipp Amstutz (Switzerland), Arian Essenstam (Netherlands) and Jean-Michel Petitqueux (France). Representing the UK this year is Allun Jones, Dewi Williams, Daniel Fortuna and Richard Elliot.

The event sees participants compete across multiple disciplines including: Tree felling, Fitting another chain, Bucking by combined cuts, Precision bucking and Limbing. But competitors are subject to strict rules regarding technique; they are judged not only on speed but also precision, technique and safety.
