Chilaskan from RobD

Recently ordered a Chilaskan chainsaw mill from Rob and I've just completed putting it together.

Quality looks much better than I expected - although I did need to re-drill out a few of the holes as they had a bit of casting in them so the bolts didn't push through.... but not a big deal, a simple fix. Also had to elongate the holes in the plastic cover as they didn't line up very well.... but again, a simple fix.

This is a 48" version Chilaskan and it'll be used with a Stihl 880 on a 42" Sugi bar.

Hopefully it'll last long enough to mill some lumps of oak on our farm.....

cheers, Steve

Loving the predictive text change of word

For it to be properly chillaxing you'll need a winch kit 😜

Sent from my D5803 using Arbtalk mobile app

It really is a Chilaskan, honest guv.... made in China version of the Alaskan mill.

Steady on Steve, you are spending money??

I bought some Sordin MSA chipper ear defenders too!

cheers, steve

Hey guys, I think I've got a similar chilaskan.

How's the milling going, what are you ripping?

I haven't done any milling yet but planning on cutting oak beams and braces from a bunch of oak trees lying on the ground and cobbling together a seasonal workers dwelling.... need to order a few more things before I start milling.

cheers, steve

  • 9 months later...

It's been a while but for the first I actually got to mill some oak today. Fun :)

I'm making a couple of gates.... all heartwood.

The 880 is a beast, frightening what it can chew through.

Can anyone tell me what size combi spanner I need for the 880?.... the bar nuts are 19mm but I don't know what the spark plug size is?

cheers, Steve

I use the standard stihl spanner that came with the saw, so if you're saying the bar nuts are 19mm that's what the spark plug will be
